When I started HACOY, I wanted to build an ethical fashion brand. It began with a simple question: what do I want to create? The answer was always two garments. One made in Italy, the other in Lithuania. The first was swimwear, crafted in Italy. Swimwear is a challenging garment. There are so many ways that it could go wrong. But there is something about Italian fabrics that makes them strong and long lasting. I have spent hours by Lake Como. It’s been an important source of inspiration for my painting. The same water has seeped into the fibers of our swimwear, making each piece a small fragment of Italy. Then, there is linen home office clothing from Lithuania. Linen is a fiber that needs to breathe. In Lithuania, I have found the perfect conditions for it. It grows strong and supple in the Baltic climate. The linen is milled with care in Lithuania. Then shipped to me. I still remember my first visit, standing by the rolling fields of flax. A gentle breeze brushed against my face as I walked through the fields. I often wonder if people see these places when they wear HACOY. Or just how good a linen feels, or how Italian swimwear holds up against the elements.
